I send my greetings to you from the Gulf Coast. The Gulf place where anything goes (within reason) and something funny always happens. This time of year reminds me of an afternoon outing with my grandfather a few years back. It was a cool spring day and the location was the Flying Harpoon II because the first one closed. I ordered their special drink the “Poontang” in front of my grandfather. He had to tell me what it was. We laughed really hard about it and I wanted to crawl under the baseboards.
We hung out with the local alcoholics and eavesdropped on their conversations with the bartender. One man promised her that he was rich and would “treat her right”, but after he left the bartender she made an announcement, “He always says he’s rich and will treat me right but he’s a cajun. They always say stuff like that.” Our favorite story was the one of great heartache and sadness. It was down to one man, sharing his sad story in attempts to woo the bartender.
“Yeah, I had someone break my heart the other day,” he whimpered.
“Oh yeah, honey? Tell me all about it,” she encouraged.
“Well, you see, I drove all the way out to the hospital to pick up this lady. It was thirty minutes one way, and it was late at night. When I got there, I drove around the parking lot for twenty minutes, but she stood me up. It broke my heart!”
“Was it a hot date?”
“No, I’m an Uber driver.” He then downed the rest of his beer and announced that his next shift was about to start.
Here’s to hoping you week went much better than his,
Xoxo, Lady Samantha
