“Once I Had A Love (AKA Disco Song)” sounds like a high school garage band, but if that’s all that we get from it, but we’d be missing the point. It’s hard to believe that one of the greatest disco songs originally wasn’t disco at all. “Heart of Glass” by Blondie is a perfect song in my mind, but it is inspiring to know that it didn’t start out as this perfect idea. It started off with a sound that harkens to kareoke night at a local dive bar in the Gulf. OIHAL is imperfect and rambling, but it still has the heart and soul of it’s finished product. It isn’t a perfect song yet, but it will be one day with lots of practice.

I’m turning 24 in a few days, and I look to this song as a source of inspiration for the coming year. I want to continue to work on letting go of current perfection and just posting things to see what happens. I need to think of right now as my draft and experimentation work. I need to remember that my twenties are my nonchallant “Once I Had A Love” phase. My “Heart of Glass” phase will come soon, but right now I need to enjoy the uncertainty and the learning that come with growing up.
